Rob Merrifield has taken delivery of some castings, window latch stops to complete the quantity we need for WMR 48, and leaves for reproduction hinges for all the doors of 48. They are quite nice castings. The hinge parts will need drilling and to have pins and bezels made before they are complete ready for use.
Robs photos show: 1. A sample casting alongside the pattern from which it was made; and 2. A spray of individual hinge leaf castings alongside a foot rule and a salvaged hinge. Salvaged hinges taken off N0. 48 were to a number of different visual designs, ranging from plain steel to several different apparently original designs.
The restoration team decided which design we liked the best and have made all we need for this carriage to that design. The next step is to get the leaves drilled for the pins and to have pins and bezels made. We will then be able to assemble the hinges ready for use on carriage 48.
